About

Tawny is a sculptor creating ceramic figurative pieces. She sculpts one-off originals and hand-coiled and moulded collections of abstract heads using black clays, smoke-fired finishes and glazes and bronze

Fascinated by shadow and form she expresses this with texture and contrast, creating contemporary likenesses using traditional hand-making processes inspired by ancient Egyptian, African and Japanese sculpture

Her work explores typical characteristics of beauty, representing it in the abstract, unfinished, and imperfect. Working in an abstract style she attempts to loosely capture the presence of a person, working over a series of pieces that evolve in abstraction and style, whilst maintaining the energy of the original piece

“Tawny's statues enhance the garden planting in a way I didn't think was possible.

Beautifully designed and skilfully made.

I have had so many nice comments from friends and visitors too. They add a surprise factor amongst a very natural planting scheme.” - David, Garden Heads Commission
